I.Mosaic tilesWhat adhesive should I use?

1、Classification by component type: single-component and two-componentMosaic tiles can be applied using either single- or two-component tile adhesives. These adhesives are specifically formulated for applying mosaics to achieve strong bonding. Single-component tile adhesives can be mixed with water, while two-component tile adhesives require mixing of an emulsion and powder. Two-component adhesives are suitable for large-area mosaic applications, while single-component adhesives are ideal for corner and edge treatments, particularly in areas such as curves and drain openings.

2、Classification by Acidity/Alkalinity:These are primarily divided into two types: acidic and neutral adhesives, categorized based on their intended use. Neutral mosaic adhesives have a wide range of applications and can be used for both interior and exterior walls. They are generally more expensive than acidic mosaic adhesives. Acidic mosaic adhesives are suitable for applications such as laying tiles on brick, glass tiles, and tiles for pools. They offer strong adhesion and can be used in acidic environments for long-term use without detachment.

II. How to apply mosaic tiles

1、Apply adhesive

Applying the adhesive is crucial for laying mosaic tiles. Prepare a strong tile adhesive according to the specified ratio, and use a trowel to apply the adhesive to the wall. Be careful not to apply too much adhesive. First, apply the adhesive to the wall, and then use a smooth trowel to evenly spread the adhesive. The typical thickness of the adhesive is around 20mm. Note that the mixed mosaic adhesive should be used within 2-3 hours, depending on the weather conditions.

2、Applying tiles

After applying the adhesive, align and lay the mosaic tiles according to the drawing, using a trowel or putty knife to firmly adhere the tiles, or place a flat, thick wooden board on the surface of the tiles and use a rubber mallet to uniformly tap, ensuring a secure bond. Since each mosaic tile is secured with a mesh, after attaching to the wall, the adhesive penetrates into each small mesh, achieving a firm fixing effect.

3. Inspect the application of the material.

After applying mosaic in a specific area, it is necessary to inspect the application. First, the gaps between the bricks must be consistent in width, which requires using a small trowel to adjust the mortar joints. This is a critical step that requires patience and is an important part of the mosaic tile application process. Additionally, the applied mosaic should be checked for any missing or detached pieces, and these should be filled in.

4、Joint Filling

After inspection, allow the moisture to sufficiently dry and achieve initial strength before commencing the joint filling. Prepare the required joint filling agent and use a trowel to apply it into the mosaic gaps. Ensure that the area covered with each application does not exceed 2 square meters. Apply the joint filling agent evenly over the mosaic surface, ensuring that all grout lines are completely filled and there are no residual materials. When filling the joints, wipe off the joint filling agent from the mosaic surface with a damp cloth within 20-25 minutes after application.
