Calcium carbonate is an inorganic compound, also known as limestone, chalk, and marble powder. Its chemical formula is CaCO₃.3It is neutral in pH, practically insoluble in water, and soluble in hydrochloric acid. Due to its characteristics such as white color, easy availability, abundant resources, low cost, and non-toxicity and environmental friendliness, it is the most widely used solid filler in industrial applications.

According to their manufacturing methods, they can be categorized into lightweight calcium carbonate and heavy-grade calcium carbonate.

Process for producing heavy calcium carbonate

Lightweight Calcium Carbonate Production Process

According to statistics, China's production of heavy calcium carbonate in 2019 was approximately 65 million tons, with light calcium carbonate and nano calcium carbonate totaling approximately 14 million tons. Of this, approximately 1.3 million tons were nano calcium carbonate (data source: Guangdong Calcium and Magnesium Association). The calcium carbonate industry and applications in Europe and the United States have matured, with a ratio of 8-10:1 for the use of heavy and light calcium carbonate.

Data comparison

Please refer to a comparative analysis of our batch of ultra-fine heavy calcium GY-816 and light calcium:

Due to the production process, lightweight calcium produces hard agglomerates, resulting in a higher-than-actual fine particle size detection. In actual processing and production, these agglomerates are broken down, and the proportion of fine particles (≤2µm) increases.

Downstream application data comparison

Testing was conducted at a downstream pipe manufacturing facility to produce a through-tube, with a calcium carbonate content of 37.5. The following data comparison is provided:

Test results:

1. The appearance meets the requirements, and the dimensions meet the standards. The inner wall's GY-816 putty powder is smoother compared to lightweight cement.

2. In terms of processing, GY-816's current consumption is slightly lower compared to light calcium, and the cutting process is smoother.

3. Performance analysis: Both products meet the standards.

Summary

Light calcium is manufactured using a chemical synthesis method, with a high calcium carbonate content and minimal impurities, resulting in a complete crystal morphology. This offers advantages in certain applications. However, with the development of heavy calcium production processes, selecting high-quality raw materials and performing fine processing, heavy calcium with finer particle size and higher calcium carbonate content can now rival light calcium in terms of density, brightness, and mechanical properties. Furthermore, its simple process and stability, which are less affected by environmental factors, provide superior quality and supply stability compared to light calcium.
