Codex Medical, a manufacturer of medical and pharmaceutical equipment, components, and piping, has launched HelixFlex, a 100% thermoplastic elastomer TPE pipe specifically designed for chemical and biopharmaceutical applications.

Codebay Medical recently launched HelixFlex high-purity thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) tubing, adding a new product line to its existing portfolio of silicone tubing and fluid transfer products for pharmaceutical applications. These products are used in bioprocessing, pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing, filling and dispensing, peristaltic pump transfer, and laboratory and medical equipment.
Rüdiger Gall states: "The main advantage of HelixFlex is that it can be welded or sealed to other TPE pipes, which is a specific requirement in the manufacturing process for bioproduction. HelixFlex can also be used in pump applications, such as peristaltic pumps or rotary pumps. Therefore, it combines the characteristics of both fluid transport materials and pump application materials, ensuring safety and reliability. This means that a single pipe can be used for all applications, eliminating the need to purchase and manage specific pump-grade materials and pipes. While silicone remains an excellent choice for safe and reliable fluid transport and pipe materials, silicone pipes cannot be welded or sealed due to their properties as cross-linked elastomers."
The HelixFlex product line will initially be manufactured at Freudenberg's facility located in Carrick-on-Shannon, Ireland. He added: "The next step will include establishing a manufacturing facility in the Americas to provide our customers with faster and more readily available local supply chain support. We will also ensure that both facilities reflect their capabilities in terms of materials, processes, and quality systems."
