Borealis and Uponor Infra have collaborated to develop Ultra Rib 2 Blue, the next generation of polypropylene (PP) sewage pipes, which boasts a carbon emission reduction rate of up to 70%. Due to its use of over 50% renewable raw materials, it achieves a reduction in petroleum-based materials. Uponor Infra is a leading international supplier of water and indoor climate systems for residential and commercial buildings in Europe.
Ultra Rib 2 Blue utilizes Bornewables, a range of renewable polyolefin products from Nordic Chemicals. Manufactured using renewable raw materials, the material's performance is equivalent to that of virgin polyolefins. These pipes are manufactured in a Uponor ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) certified factory located in Sweden. The use of renewable raw materials partially replaces fossil-based raw materials, resulting in a significant reduction in carbon footprint. The ISCC PLUS certification ensures that Nordic Chemicals' Bornewables product range and Uponor's Ultra Rib 2 Blue meet the high sustainability standards of ISCC PLUS.

Ultra Rib 2 Blue utilizes the Bornewables product range from North European Chemicals.
Uponor Infra President Sebastian Bondestam stated: "We are delighted to partner with Nordic Chemicals to develop a plastic pipe with a 70% reduction in its carbon footprint. We are committed to providing the highest quality products for sustainable development. Our customers can be confident that they are making the right decision for the environment."
"Through this range of products, we are accelerating circular economy initiatives, helping our customers and the construction industry achieve ambitious sustainability goals, while also meeting stringent pipe quality standards," said Robin Bresser, Marketing Manager for Nordic Chemical Pipelines.
