One、Will self-leveling agent become moldy and black?
Using high-quality grout products and employing proper application methods, grout typically does not develop mold or turn black. Grout effectively addresses issues such as blackening, detachment, and unpleasant odors in tile joints. Furthermore, grout creates a protective layer on the tile surface after application, providing waterproofing, mold prevention, and stain resistance. This not only enhances aesthetics but also provides practical benefits.
Two. How to handle grout discoloration
1、Damp paper towels or cloths
After the grout hardens, the surface is very smooth, and generally, it is difficult to leave stains. If stains accidentally get on the surface, causing the grout to become dirty, you can easily wipe the grout surface with a damp paper towel or cloth. This allows you to easily remove the stains, and the grout will look as good as new.

2. Use toothpaste to remove stains.
Toothpaste can be a convenient and environmentally friendly cleaning agent. It can be used to clean various items in the home. The sealant used to fill the gaps between tiles is typically white in color. Over time, it can become moldy and turn black. In such cases, toothpaste can be used as a cleaning agent. Simply apply a small amount of toothpaste to a toothbrush and scrub along the gaps. The sealant will then regain its original bright white appearance.
3. Use edible alkali to remove stains.
Lye also has cleaning and whitening effects. Dissolve a suitable amount of lye in warm water, apply it to the grout lines of tiles, and then wipe or scrub with a toothbrush. Finally, clean with water.
4、Lemon juice + baking soda + white vinegar + water
Mix lemon juice, baking soda, white vinegar, and water in a 1:1:1 ratio and stir until well combined. Then, use a brush to apply the mixture to the grout lines, scrubbing with appropriate pressure. Finally, wipe clean with a cloth for effective cleaning.
5、Mold Stain Remover
Additionally, using a professional mold stain remover is simple and convenient. Just apply it evenly to the dark, moldy grout lines, and it will penetrate deep into the grout to break down the mold, while also inhibiting bacterial growth and preventing future mold growth in the grout lines. It is very convenient and practical!
6、Re-apply joint compound.
Re-grouting is a complex task, but if the grout between tiles has discolored and is difficult to clean, this is the simplest and most direct solution:
① Moisture in the gaps causes the grout to discolor, requiring the removal of the original grout. Solidified grout needs to be softened first with a heat gun, and then carefully removed with a grout removal tool. The gaps must be thoroughly cleaned and dried before applying new grout.
② Yellowing of the grout caused by direct sunlight is unavoidable, and light yellowing is also a common issue. If you encounter this, we recommend covering it with another layer to avoid direct sunlight. If avoiding direct sunlight is not possible, you can choose to redo it with a different color, or simply leave it as is.
