One. The strong odor of plywood is caused by formaldehyde.
Not entirely.
The manufacturing process of plywood involves the extensive use of urea-formaldehyde resin adhesives. As urea-formaldehyde resin adhesives are chemically synthesized, they inevitably contain formaldehyde. Therefore, newly purchased plywood may contain some formaldehyde, which is odorless but can cause discomfort due to its irritating properties.

The odor from plywood is mainly caused by two factors: firstly, some types of wood naturally emit odors; and secondly, the odors from the adhesives used in the plywood manufacturing process.
Two. What should I do if the plywood has a smell?
Ventilation method: Ventilation and air circulation can help dissipate odors and reduce their intensity.
Phytoremediation: Plants have a strong ability to absorb formaldehyde, such as cacti, spider plants, reeds, ivy, iron trees, and chrysanthemums.
Activated carbon adsorption method: Solid activated carbon has a porous structure, which exhibits strong adsorption and decomposition effects on harmful substances such as formaldehyde. The smaller the particle size of the activated carbon, the better the adsorption effect.
Photocatalytic method: The catalyst in the photocatalyst, under the stimulation of light, reacts with oxygen and water in the air to generate negative ions and hydroxyl radicals, which can oxidize and decompose various organic and inorganic pollutants, ultimately degrading them into harmless substances such as carbon dioxide, water, and corresponding acids. This achieves the effect of decomposing pollutants and purifying air.
Chemical treatment method: Formaldehyde absorbers available on the market can be classified into two types: one neutralizes formaldehyde to generate harmless substances, thereby purifying the air; the other blocks formaldehyde, preventing its volatilization, to purify the air.
Traditional methods passed down through generations: Placing tea leaves, citrus peels, onions, and pineapple in a freshly renovated room, or using white vinegar to fumigate the entire room.
