One. Are particle boards susceptible to water damage?
The inherent structure of wood results in poor water resistance and makes it susceptible to moisture absorption and humidity, leading to issues such as mold growth and warping.
Wood panels are no exception. Wood panels that have not been treated with a waterproof coating are susceptible to water damage and should not be used in humid environments or submerged in water.
If the plywood has been treated for water resistance, you can clean it with a damp cloth or other water-containing items during use. This prevents minor water damage, but even with water-resistant treatment, the plywood cannot be submerged in water. Regardless of how many times you apply waterproof paint, it will still absorb water.
Additionally, there is a multi-layer wood composite panel commonly used in construction, typically red in color. This panel is specifically designed for use with concrete, and therefore offers excellent water resistance. This type of wood composite panel is impervious to water.
Two. Will soaking wood panels have a significant impact?
The wood-based panel has waterlogged, which significantly affects its performance and renders it unusable.
Specifically, when using wood-based flooring, if it has been exposed to water, it must be replaced immediately. Regardless of the drying method used, moisture will remain trapped within the flooring, leading to issues such as peeling, warping, and insect infestation over time.
Note: If rainwater enters the wooden board due to an open window, and the water is promptly wiped off and the board is dried, the impact will be minimal and the board can be used again.
