One、What is the principle of fire-resistant windows?

In reality, the principle of fire-resistant windows is quite simple. Fire-resistant windows primarily consist of steel window frames, steel window sashes, and fire-resistant glass, which effectively isolate and prevent the spread of fire. However, it is important to note that the fire resistance of fire-resistant windows refers to the ability to effectively prevent the transmission of heat radiation for a certain period of time, providing temporary protection against the spread of fire, thus giving personnel valuable time for rescue and evacuation. It does not mean placing windows in a fire to burn, which is why they are called fire-resistant windows, not fire-extinguishing windows.

Two, the differences between fire-resistant windows and ordinary windows

1、From a glass perspective

The glass in fire-resistant windows must be tempered glass; ordinary window glass is not necessarily tempered glass, and therefore does not provide fire resistance. Fire-resistant windows must also have fire-resistant markings. Tempered glass that has passed fire resistance tests for products that incorporate fire-resistant liquid can be used. The glass transparency must be no less than 75% of the same-layer ordinary flat glass.

2、From the perspective of window frame materials

Generally, fire-resistant windows use steel frames, as well as common materials such as PVC and aluminum alloys. According to national regulations, fire-resistant windows are classified into Grade A, B, and C, with different fire-resistant durations for each grade. Grade A windows must withstand fire for at least 1.5 hours, Grade B windows for at least 1 hour, and Grade C windows for at least 0.5 hours. Furthermore, according to relevant standards, the sealing material between the frame and fire-resistant glass must be made of non-combustible materials to provide fire and smoke isolation during a fire. Ordinary windows, due to their fast heat conduction, have no fire-resistant duration, and therefore, do not provide effective fire protection.

3、Considering the price

Fire-resistant windows will definitely be more expensive than ordinary windows. Currently, steel fire-resistant windows are generally priced between 400 and 500 yuan per window, while aluminum fire-resistant windows are even more expensive. A standard window, on the other hand, might only cost around 300-400 yuan.
