One. Do solid wood doors require expansion joints?
- Solid wood doors require pre-planning for expansion joints. These joints are crucial for mitigating the natural expansion and contraction of wood, thereby extending the lifespan of solid wood furniture. The expansion joint prevents the furniture frame or mortise from cracking due to changes in the external environment, which could cause the furniture components to loosen and become unusable.

The size of expansion joints is crucial. The width should be determined based on the density of the wood and the climate characteristics of the region where the furniture will be used. Expansion joint widths are typically between 0.3 and 0.5 centimeters. Widths exceeding 0.5 centimeters can be aesthetically undesirable. If the panels are not excessively wide, exceeding 0.5 centimeters is unnecessary. Excessively wide expansion joints are often a result of improper drying of the wood during furniture manufacturing.
Two. The gap between wooden doors should be sized appropriately.
1、Maintain a gap of 1.5~4.0mm between the solid wood door leaf and the upper frame.
2、The gap between the solid wood door leaf and the side frame should be 1.5~4.0mm.
3. Maintain a gap of 4.0~6.0mm between the solid wood door leaf and the floor for exterior doors, and 6.0~8.0mm for interior doors. Maintain a gap of 8.0~10.0mm between the solid wood door leaf and the floor in bathrooms.
4. After installing the solid wood door leaf, it should be level and plumb, with the door leaf flush with the exterior surface of the door frame. The door leaf should open and close smoothly without any noise, and should operate freely. After closing the door, the door leaf should fit tightly against the sealing strip without any movement.
