II. Why sliding windows are more soundproof than open-and-close windows
1、Glass material
The difference in thickness of glass materials determines the amount of sound transmission. Generally, hinged windows are significantly thicker than sliding windows. Hinged windows have a frame similar to a letter slot, which creates a tighter seal when closed, preventing movement and loosening, thereby reducing sound transmission. Hinged windows are typically double-paned, and the air gap between the glass panes further inhibits sound transmission.
2、Fastening Method
The window sash, which has a sliding track at the bottom, has rollers. Over time, these rollers will wear out, leading to looseness. Hinged windows do not have rollers and do not slide back and forth frequently, so they do not experience movement or looseness over time, which helps to reduce sound transmission.
3、 Sealing Performance
"Sealing for sliding windows is typically achieved using gaskets, while sliding doors use felt strips for sealing. When comparing these two methods, the sealing effectiveness of gaskets will invariably be superior to that of felt strips.
4、Window Structure
From a structural perspective, most sliding windows typically feature a single-layer design, which results in relatively weaker sound insulation. Pivot windows, on the other hand, usually have a double-layer design, with the air gap between the glass effectively preventing sound transmission. Therefore, the sound insulation performance of pivot windows is more noticeable.
