One: What to do if you have forgotten the password for a mechanical lock?
1、Multi-lever type
A multi-dial combination lock is one of the simplest types of combination locks, commonly found on low-security bicycle locks. It uses multiple dials, each with a recessed center. A central pin on the lock body has several protruding teeth that engage with the dials. When the dials are rotated to the correct combination, the lock opens.
This type of lock is the easiest to open. Many of these locks can be opened without knowing the password. Unless the internal components are perfectly manufactured, simply pulling the shackle outward will cause one of the teeth to engage more firmly. When the shackle is pulled until a slight "click" is heard, indicating that the tooth has entered the correct groove, the lock can be opened. Repeating this process quickly unlocks the lock.
2、Single turntable type
The combination lock used on a padlock or safe can have a single rotating disc. This disc rotates to move several balance discs or cams underneath. Typically, to open the lock, the disc is rotated clockwise to the first number, then counter-clockwise to the second number, and so on until the last number. The cams usually have notches, which align when the correct combination is entered, allowing the lock to open.
Some combination locks can be manipulated by pulling the lock head, then rotating the dial until it cannot be moved further. This allows the combination to be discovered. Some dial combination locks also have specific relationships between the numbers, which greatly reduces the possible combination. Inexpensive combination locks can be opened using special pads without needing the combination. The combination lock structure used on the box is relatively tight. An experienced locksmith can rotate the dial while using a stethoscope to listen for the sound of the internal cams, to determine the possible combination.
Two. How to change the password for a mechanical lock.
First, pull up the lock pin of the lock and rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise. Then, align the lock and press it down into the hole. Rotate it 90 degrees counterclockwise again to enter the password setting mode. Finally, rotate the password section to set the password. Remember to shuffle the password after setting it to prevent others from seeing your password.
