1. First, determine the installation height. once the height is determined, the installer uses a measuring square to draw lines. The measuring square ensures that the lines on both sides of the door are at the same height. If the lines on both sides are not on the same horizontal plane, the door will appear slanted after installation, which is not aesthetically pleasing and can also lead to problems over time.
2. The packaging includes an installation diagram that clearly indicates the required spacing between holes during installation. The installer uses the diagram to mark the hole positions on the door, and then uses a power drill to create the holes.
3. After all the holes are properly drilled, begin the installation. The screws for the inner and outer handles are typically located on the inside of the door. (If the screws are on the outside, the door lock can be removed.) Ensure the screws on the inside are tightened, and that both the inner and outer handles are level. Do not overtighten the screws.
