One. What is the maximum temperature that glass fiber pipes can withstand?

1. The typical temperature resistance limit for glass fiber pipes is 150℃. Glass fiber pipes should not be used at high temperatures for extended periods. General polyester FRP experiences a significant strength reduction above 50℃, and is typically used below 100℃. General epoxy FRP experiences a significant strength reduction above 60℃. However, it is possible to select high-temperature resins to achieve continuous operation temperatures of 200-300℃.

2. It is not recommended to use glass fiber pipes at temperatures above 150°C. At such high temperatures, the material properties of glass fiber, due to the glass transition, significantly decrease, including compressive strength and hydrostatic pressure resistance. In the case of high-pressure glass fiber pipes, the use of threaded connections makes them prone to leakage at high temperatures.

Two. Performance characteristics of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) pipe materials

1、Excellent corrosion resistance. Due to the primary raw materials of unsaturated polyester resins and glass fibers, which are components of fiberglass, it effectively resists corrosion from acids, alkalis, salts, and untreated sewage, corrosive soils, industrial wastewater, and various chemical liquids. In general, it can maintain the safe operation of pipelines for a long period.

2、Glass fiber pipes can be used continuously within a temperature range of -40°C to 70°C. Ready-mixed putty paste with a special high-temperature resin can also operate normally at temperatures above 200°C.

3. For pipes used in outdoor applications for extended periods, UV absorbers are applied to the exterior surface to mitigate the effects of UV radiation, thereby slowing down the aging of fiberglass pipes.

4、Excellent freeze-resistance. Does not freeze and crack within the pipe at temperatures below -20°C.

5. Lightweight, high strength, and easy to transport. Glass fiber pipes are not only lightweight, have high strength, and excellent plasticity, but are also easy to transport and install, and offer simple installation techniques. They also facilitate the installation of various branch pipes.

6. Excellent hydraulic conditions. Smooth inner walls, strong flow capacity, no fouling, no corrosion, and low water resistance.

7. Excellent design flexibility. Glass fiber pipes can be designed and manufactured to meet specific requirements, such as different flow rates, pressures, embedment depths, and load conditions, resulting in pipes with different pressure and stiffness levels.

8. Low maintenance costs. Due to the corrosion resistance, abrasion resistance, and freeze-thaw resistance of glass fiber pipes, no anti-corrosion, anti-fouling, insulation, or maintenance measures are required for the project. No cathodic protection is needed for underground pipes, resulting in savings of more than 70% in maintenance costs.

9、Excellent abrasion resistance. A rotational abrasion resistance test was conducted on tubes containing a large amount of mud, sand, and water. After 3 million rotations, the following wear depths were measured on the inner walls of the tubes: tubes coated with asphalt and porcelain enamel had a wear depth of 0.53mm, tubes coated with epoxy resin and asphalt had a wear depth of 0.52mm, and tubes with a glass fiber substrate and surface hardening treatment had a wear depth of 0.21mm. This demonstrates the excellent abrasion resistance of glass fiber.
