One, what type of sprayer is best for applying water-based paints?
1、Spray gun type: Suction type
The principle utilizes high-speed airflow to create a localized vacuum in the spray gun, thereby generating suction to draw water-based paint from the container and atomize it for spraying. This method is primarily used for large-area applications. Its benefits include excellent paint atomization, allowing for precise control over film thickness and gloss.
2、Gravity-fed spray gun

Utilize gravity to draw the water-based paint from the upper container to the lower nozzle, and then use air pressure to atomize and spray it out. Previously, this design was intended for small-area repairs, but it has now evolved to cover large areas. The advantage is that it can save paint when performing small-area repairs.
3、Roller-type sprayer
The airless spray gun draws coating from a separate coating reservoir (or pump), allowing multiple guns to be supplied with coating simultaneously. In this type of gun, the coating nozzle and the air cap opening are located on the same plane, or the air cap opening is slightly recessed relative to the nozzle opening. This eliminates the need for negative pressure at the nozzle end. Airless spray guns are suitable for applications where a large volume of coating is required and continuous spraying is necessary.
4、Internal mixing spray gun
The internal mixing spray gun features two air supply systems: a compressed air system for mixing and atomizing the coating, and a compressed air system for pressurizing the coating within the container. The coating is supplied via a pressurized system. The central hole of the air cap is oval-shaped, resulting in an elliptical spray pattern. This spray gun does not have side air ports or auxiliary air ports, and cannot be adjusted to change the spray pattern. The spray pattern is determined by the shape of the central hole in the air cap. To change the width of the spray pattern, the air cap must be replaced. Therefore, the internal mixing spray gun does not have a spray pattern adjustment mechanism, and other adjustment mechanisms are similar to those of external mixing spray guns.
2. What diameter of spray gun is recommended for use with water-based paints?
The appropriate nozzle size depends on your specific application. If you are using it for touch-up work, choose a nozzle with a diameter of 0.3-0.8mm. If you are working on a larger area, choose a nozzle with a diameter of 1.3-1.7mm for faster spraying. For even larger areas where appearance is not a primary concern, a nozzle with a diameter of 2.0-2.5mm is suitable. However, if you are spraying a very large area and require a specific paint thickness, it is recommended to use an airless spraying system, as the larger nozzles may not produce paint with the desired thickness.
