One, What is particleboard?
Particleboard is a type of engineered wood product manufactured by shredding various types of wood, including branches, saplings, fast-growing wood, and wood chips, into a specific size and shape. The resulting particles are then dried, mixed with adhesives, hardeners, and waterproofing agents, and pressed under heat and pressure to form a uniform product. Particleboard is one of the three main types of engineered wood products.
Two. Particleboard material

The raw materials for producing particleboard include wood or wood fiber materials, adhesives, and additives. The wood or wood fiber materials account for more than 90% of the dry weight of the board.
1、Wood-based panel raw materials are primarily sourced from timber obtained from forests, small-diameter trees (typically less than 8 cm in diameter), and remaining materials from logging and wood processing. These are processed into flakes, strips, needles, and granules, which are then referred to as "shavings." Additionally, non-wood materials such as plant stems and seed shells can also be processed into panels, often named after the materials used, such as "flax fiber (shavings) board" and "sugar cane fiber (shavings) board."
2. Urea-formaldehyde resin adhesives and phenolic resin adhesives are commonly used for particleboard. The former has a light color and low curing temperature, and exhibits good bonding effects on particleboard made from various plant-based materials such as wheat straw and rice husk. The hot pressing temperature is 195-210℃. It is widely used in production, but has the disadvantage of releasing free formaldehyde and polluting the environment.
Three. What are the applications of particleboard?
Particleboard is commonly used for interior wall decoration in residential or architectural projects, often as a partition wall. When used for this purpose, it is typically covered with plastic film. Particleboard without a plastic film is often used as a substrate for creating drywall or other wall coverings, primarily providing support.
