II. How to Identify the Quality of Plywood
1、From a visual inspection:Examine the wood fiber particle size and shape at the center of the cross-section. Ideally, the length should be between 5-10MM. If the particles are too long, the structure will be loose. If they are too short, the material will have poor deformation resistance and will not meet the required flexural strength.
2、Moisture Resistance:The moisture resistance of engineered wood products depends on their density and moisture-resistant agents. Immersing them in water will not improve their moisture resistance; moisture resistance refers to resistance to moisture vapor, not water resistance. Therefore, it is important to distinguish between these two concepts. In northern regions, including North China, Northwest China, and Northeast China, the moisture content of engineered wood products should generally be controlled between 6-8%. In southern regions, including coastal areas, the moisture content should be controlled between 8-10% to prevent warping and deformation due to moisture absorption.
3、Surface Smoothness:From a smoothness perspective, it is generally recommended to sand the substrate with 200-grit sandpaper before use. While finer grits are generally preferred, in certain applications, such as attaching fire-resistant panels, excessively fine grits can hinder adhesion.
4、Brand Selection:Due to the diverse sources and relatively simple manufacturing processes of particleboard, the market is filled with particleboard products of varying sizes, quality, and specifications. Therefore, when selecting particleboard, it is advisable to choose products from reputable brands or purchase them from professional panel distributors. When purchasing, pay attention to the marking on the side of the panel and request the panel distributor to provide relevant test reports.
