One. Reasons for the aging and brittleness of solar panels

1、To improve curing properties

High-quality polycarbonate sheets, besides using high-quality UV-resistant films and excellent resins, also require proper curing. When the curing of polycarbonate sheets is improved, their hardness, mechanical strength, and flexural strength will also increase, while their relative brittleness will decrease.

2、To improve flexibility.

In many domestic solar panel manufacturers, a plasticizer (also known as a softening agent) is added to solar panels to enhance their flexibility. While this improves the flexibility of the panels, it can significantly reduce their strength, leading to premature aging and brittleness.

3. Improper handling and installation procedures.

As a steel structural component, handling and lifting loads on the solar panel can cause damage, leading to its aging and brittleness.

II. How to prevent solar panels from becoming brittle

1. Do not damage or remove the protective film before installation, to avoid scratching the surface of the solar panel.

2、It is strictly prohibited to directly nail 10mm polycarbonate (PC) sheets onto the frame. This can cause high stresses due to the expansion of the sheet material, which can damage the edges where the holes are made.

3、Must use sealing materials and sealing pads specifically designed for polycarbonate plastic.

4. If the radius of curvature of the bent material is too small, the mechanical strength and chemical resistance of the material will decrease significantly. To prevent dangerous stress cracking on the exposed surface, the radius of curvature of the bent material must not be less than the specified value.

5. During transportation and storage, materials must be properly padded, packaged, and laid flat to prevent any minor surface damage (such as scratches) from developing into cracks. Materials should also be kept separate from other chemicals, as volatile substances can cause chemical stress cracking on the surface. This applies to materials that have been delivered to the construction site.
