One、What screws are used to fix particleboard?
1、Screw fastening
Screws, also known as wood screws, are widely used in the assembly of wooden products. When assembling particleboard or connecting wooden product components, screws can be used for visible fastening, while concealed fastening is a more sophisticated method. This method is suitable for products with smooth surfaces on both sides. When joining two surfaces, a small cavity, similar to a ping-pong ball, is first drilled to the appropriate depth, and then the two components are assembled securely after applying adhesive.
2、Steel nail connection
When using nails, select the appropriate length and size based on the application, ensuring that the wood is securely fastened without causing damage. Common methods include exposed nail, concealed nail, and nail setting.
(1) Nail lap joint. Commonly used for concealed areas such as furniture back panels.
(2) Mortise and tenon joint. Commonly used in visible areas such as between side panels and bed frame edges, as well as various edge treatments. To maintain the aesthetic appearance of furniture, flatten the nail heads, hammer the nails in, and then use a nail cleaner to push the nail heads approximately 2-3mm into the wood, preventing them from protruding. When painting, cover the nails and touch up the paint to match.
(3) Nail-in Joining. To maintain the aesthetic appearance of wood grain on furniture and prevent damage from nail holes, nail-in joining can be used to apply pressure during the gluing process, resulting in a more tightly bonded joint. This method typically involves placing a small piece of wood as a pressing board on the glued components, driving the nails through the pressing board into the components, removing the pressing board and nails after gluing, and then covering the nails with paint. This method is commonly used for edge banding and nail coverage.
3、Combination of wood nails or bamboo nails
Wooden nails or bamboo nails are suitable for fixing board expansion joints and mortise-and-tenon joints. When joining, arrange the boards to be joined, mark the edges, and drill holes on the sides, with a hole diameter slightly smaller than the nail diameter and a depth approximately half the length of the nail. After applying glue and joining the two surfaces, drive the nails in. If fixing a mortise, you can cut the nail heads into a conical shape, with a length that securely holds the mortise without penetrating the wood. Then, drive the nails into the sides of the mortise.
Two. What to do if screws on particleboard come loose?
Particleboard has inherently weak nail-holding capacity, and typically requires re-drilling. Alternatively, using a three-in-one screw with adhesive granules can be an effective solution.
