III. Disadvantages of Engineered Wood
The main environmental concerns associated with engineered wood furniture stem from the use of materials like particleboard. If particleboard furniture is manufactured and veneered without completely encapsulating the material, it can release formaldehyde, which is harmful to both the environment and human health. A strong, irritating odor when opening cabinets or drawers is often a sign of excessive formaldehyde levels, and such furniture should not be purchased.
